“The revolutionary nutritional and lifestyle program to help fight high blood pressure.”

Over 50 million Americans suffer from hypertension, and it is known as the 'silent killer' because it has few if any symptoms – which means unless you have your blood pressure checked then you have no idea whether or not you are one of the 50 million. It is a disease that the medical profession treat with drugs, but those drugs are expensive and often have serious side effects, and most importantly they do nothing to prevent the causes of the disease they only treat the symptoms.

This excellent book by Dr Houston offers a natural solution to curing high blood pressure. His comprehensive program mixes the best parts of traditional medicine as well as a healthy dose of alternative medicine and his approach is to reduce high blood pressure from many different angles. He claims to have had a 90 percent success rate with his patients and is able to back up all of his advice and suggestions with references to other peer-reviewed journals and research papers.

In terms of nutrition, this book recommends the DASH diet, which is a low sodium, low fat diet developed by specialists at the NHLBI and which is also championed by the American Heart Association. There is also a good discussion on prescription medicines, their pros and cons, and likewise with the discussion on supplements. It explains which supplements you should take alongside a healthy diet program and also gives case studies for some of the people who have followed Dr Houston's advice and have benefited by making changes to their lifestyles.

Focusing on nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and medication it is a revolutionary approach to the treatment of hypertension, this book helps and encourages you to find your own way to adapt your lifestyle and diet.

This book also suggests how alternative therapies might work for you, especially stress reduction techniques like meditation. It is not a book written around vague advice to lose weight or take more exercise, it gives a lot more practical advice about how to make these changes and how to cope with high blood pressure.

I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who has hypertension. Although written by health professionals it is not full of jargon and doesn't feel like a self help manual.
