Fasting and Eating for Health: A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease

I don't have a lot of time for celebrity doctors, a cynical part of me wonders how they manage to spend so much time on our screens telling us how to live our lives, and yet still seem to able to hold down their careers as medical doctors – when do their real patients ever get to see them? But Dr Joel Fuhrman is my exception to that rule. Whenever I've seen him speak on TV I find myself nodding and agreeing with what he has to say. I've even tuned in to PBS to see his new show “3 Steps to Incredible Health”.
This particular book has been on the shelves a long time, it was first published in 1995, but it keeps selling because it has helped so many people. It gives a step by step guide on fasting - how to start, how to continue and what to expect, and it offers you a chance to get rid of medicines and resort to safe and natural healing instead. There are very precise diet and fasting programs that can help to relieve asthma, high blood pressure, and psoriasis to name just a few.
Not everyone will agree with fasting, but Dr Fuhrman goes into the historical, biological and medical aspects of this practice. The diets he suggests are primarily vegetarian, and after being on a vegetarian diet for a few months he explains how you can be ready to fast for between 7-21 days – but under medical supervision.
Fasting is not meant to be a cure for any of the diseases he mentions, it is supposed to be a period where your body is given time so it can recover to a more natural state and balance, for when you start to reintroduce certain foods.
