Make Ghee

Heat 1 pound of unsalted butter in a pan on medium heat. When it begins to melt, turn the heat to low. Keep boiling for about 12 minutes. As it boils, you will see the fat rising to the surface. Enjoy the lovely aroma! The butter will have turned a golden yellow color by now and you will be able to see the bottom of the pan. You may take the pan off the stove. Strain through a very fine muslin lined strainer.

Storing Ghee

Ghee does not require refrigeration. When the ghee is warm enough to handle pour it through a fine cloth/strainer into a clean wide necked bottle and close the lid when it is fully cooled.

Thus, ghee making is quite easy. There is yet another way to do it, which is by spooning away the fat as it rises to the top. This will require your full attention as you stay with the process from beginning to end.

As you get used to the taste, you may use ghee as a good substitute for butter. Remember to use good quality, unsalted butter to make ghee.
