A diet for high blood pressure may include seasonal foods such as special spring seasonal foods of Europe which worth consuming for a healthier body. In short it is always better for the body to eat foods of the season.  

The daylight hours begin to lengthen during spring, and you can spend more time outside in the evenings – if you fancy growing your own, this is the season to start planning your vegetable plot. A window box or a few plant pots are all you need to grow salad vegetables and herbs – cooking with your own produce can be so rewarding, and you can't beat it for freshness, from plot to pot in a matter of seconds!

March Diet For High Blood Pressure

New potatoes and spring onions appear or the first time this month, they are a superb taste combination. Lightly crush your boiled new potatoes with the back of a spoon, sprinkle with olive oil and stir in some chopped spring onions and ground black pepper – delicious and heart healthy!

Some of the more delicate herbs are just starting to come into season, so look out for chives, parsley and coriander. Rhubarb is still at its best – this vegetable has a very high vitamin C content and is a great source of dietary fiber, it can even be used as a purgative if you are suffering from digestive problems.

April Diet For High Blood Pressure

April continues with all the seasonal foods from March as well as radishes, some tender salad leaves, and onions. Spinach remains in season – this is a semi-hardy crop that will grow nearly all year round. Just like the other leafy greens such as kale and broccoli, spinach is packed full of calcium, folic acid and iron – it can help raise good cholesterol levels and is a source of lutein which is believed to have anti cancer properties.

Asparagus is now available – with such a short growing season you should make the most of this super food while it is at its best. If you have a glut of this crop then puree some and make into soup to freeze and have later on in the year. Fresh asparagus has anti-inflammatory properties and consequently has a natural ability to lower high blood pressure.

You may be lucky enough to find the first cherries towards the end of May. All berry fruits are high in anti-oxidants and vitamins. Recent scientific studies seem to suggest that cherries and cherry juice can help in the fight against diabetes and lower high cholesterol levels.

carrot and coriander soup

spinach lasagne

cherry and banana smoothies

asparagus risotto.


So as mentioned earlier, a healthy diet for high blood pressure includes foods grown in season.
